Jazz Music City presents Timeless Tales - The Debut of the Jazz Music City All-Star Big Band feat. Duffy Jackson, Annie Sellick, & Jim WilliamsonJazz
The big-band era was a special time in jazz history — a period when top-flight musicians performed classic works for large audiences, combining popularity with artistry in an unprecedented manner. While those days are gone, the Jazz Music City All-Star Big Band is an updated version of some spectacular past aggregations. Assembled by versatile saxophonist and label head Rahsaan Barber (also the band’s artistic director), the group features numerous great area players and a few special guests who are joining them for tonight’s debut performance. Vocalist Annie Sellick and trumpeter Jim Williamson will be part of this grand musical ensemble, but tonight their ranks will also include Bruce Dudley, Derrek Phillips, George Tidwell, Imer Santiago, Don Aliquo, Denis Solee, Roland Barber, Roy Agee, Chris West and many others. A portion of ticket sales will go to help defray medical costs for local jazz treasure Duffy Jackson, who was scheduled to play drums at this show until urgent health issues forced him to cancel.
