The Black Cadillacs

Pop/Rock
Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Clearly, a car of this particular color and model is a popular combination in the realm of country, rock and blues. Lightnin’ Hopkins sang about it, as did Rosanne Cash. Carrie Underwood had a hit with a song about two of ’em, and hometown boys The Cadillac Black shifted the emphasis from the wheels to the hue. Then there are The Black Cadillacs, who hail from Knoxville. Their thing is hard Southern rock with a healthy amount of roll. Run — the guys’ second album, and first on Pittsburgh indie Young Giant — is the work of a band who’ve lifted more than a few moves from a ’70s LP collection, but aren’t content to simply go through the motions. Theirs is a fiercely all-consuming attack, with ample meat on the bones of their vivid hooks, satisfying riffs and eruptive soul ballads.
