Mage Tha Blackheart w/Last of the Horsemen & Adder

Hip-Hop
Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

While we won’t go too deep into all of our grievances with the current state of hip-hop — we have to leave some room for the rest of the paper! — we will say this lineup doesn’t overlap with a single one of them. With a cast of characters that veers more toward the experimental and unexpected, tonight’s show is a welcome relief from the usual barrage of self-aggrandizing conspicuous consumption. Mage tha Blackheart’s new album on Jeffery Drag Records is the most radically political hip-hop record to come out of Nashville in recent memory, while Last of the Horsemen’s new record is the most artfully misanthropic. And L.A.-based MC Adder brings a psychedelic edge to a scene that’s been spending way too much time eating molly and chewing its own face.
