Poets and Prophets: Salute to Legendary Songwriter Tom Douglas

Country
Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Tom Douglas ought to have some good karma. He co-wrote the song that gave Miranda Lambert her first country No. 1, “The House That Built Me.” Even better, the song had plenty of narrative heft and tangible detail, qualities country radio had been sorely lacking. Before that, Douglas had a hand in writing some other big songs, including pop-country ballads with a conscience like Martina McBride’s “Love’s the Only House” and Lee Ann Womack’s “Something Worth Leaving Behind.” By now, the former real estate agent qualifies as a Music Row veteran; he had his first success 20 years ago with Collin Raye’s “Little Rock.”
