Old Crow Medicine Show w/very special guests - Buddy Miller & Friends

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Roughly a month ago, Americana golden boys Old Crow Medicine Show dropped a three-song digital EP titled Carry Me Back to Virginia. The release does not contain any new original material, but it successfully highlights the septet’s continued presence as preservers of antiquity. Four No. 1 Billboard bluegrass albums and relentless touring have kept OCMS at the genre’s forefront, and their ability to merge modernity with antebellum storytelling further solidifies them as town criers for a movement they’ve been heralding since the late ’90s. But even keepers of respective flames deserve time off, and tonight’s performance at The Woods marks the final month of a yearlong tour. Openers Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale will bridge the evening’s generational gap in support of Buddy & Jim, the duo’s 2012 collaborative album that garnered two Americana Award nominations. Despite the recent haze of fleeting buzz bands, both OCMS and the Miller/Lauderdale combo pierce through disposable hits du jour to focus on the endearing timelessness the Americana movement has always championed.
