CANCELED: The Liberation Tour with Mary J. Blige and Kem

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

This show has been canceled. Refunds are available at point of purchase.

It would be easy, if ill-advised, to take Mary J. Blige for granted. She’s been so good for so long, you just pencil her in the win column every time out. The owner of a 20-plus-year career, a string of hits from “You Remind Me” to “Someone to Love Me (Naked)” and a voice that embodies hurt and power like few others, Blige is one of the greats. And an unlikely candidate, it seemed, for financial woes — but a $3.4 million tax lien for unpaid back taxes had her name in the headlines for all the wrong reasons earlier this year. Still, the only mistake bigger than taking Blige for granted would be counting her out. This is, after all, someone who named an album Stronger With Each Tear. And as she put it herself: “No mistake, no heartbreak / Can take away what you’re meant to be.”
