Blues Caravan: Tomorrow's Guitar Heroes feat. Bart Walker, Joanne Shaw Taylor, Jimmy Bowskill & Cumberland Blue

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Rising stars Bart Walker and CJ Wilder hail from Nashville, and Joanne Shaw calls Birmingham, England, home, but their music ricochets between Memphis, Clarksdale, Chicago and Dallas, distilling all kinds of blues and rock influences into their own potent brews. Those elixirs mix in the Blues Caravan Tour, which has just arrived in the States after a series of mostly sold-out dates in Europe. In the Caravan’s unusual format, all three artists share the stage as they trade licks and take turns leading the band performing numbers from their own new albums. For budding guitar hero Walker, this is a triumphant homecoming on the heels of his Jim Gaines-producedWaiting on Daylight, a creative breakthrough that bristles with soulful intensity. Six-stringing singer Taylor, making her local debut, was 16 when she was discovered by Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart. And vocalist-bassist Wilder has just joined the tour’s U.S. leg after signing with the roots-rockin’ Ruf Records, which sponsors the Blues Caravan to showcase their emerging artists.
