Mike Zito

Pop/Rock
Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Guitarist Mike Zito joins Devon Allman slinging strings in the roots-rocking Royal Southern Brotherhood, but his new solo album digs back into the blues. Gone to Texas also pays tribute to Zito’s adopted home state and displays his love for New Orleans’ music. Zito’s voice spreads plenty of dust and molasses over his lyrics about finding himself and searching for truth on the title track. Elsewhere he’s joined by Nashville-via-Texas stalwart Delbert McClinton, slide guitar giant Sonny Landreth and underground pop heroine Susan Cowsill on the just-released disc, which also includes a soulful take on Blind Willie Johnson’s “Let Your Love Shine on Me.” On his current album release tour, Zito’s rolling with his band The Wheel, featuring Jimmy Carpenter on sax and guitar, drummer Rob Lee and bassist Scott Sutherland.
