MARSHALL CHAPMAN at Grimey's TooPop/Rock
Marshall Chapman is a North Carolina-bred, Nashville-based renaissance woman. She's a successful singer-songwriter whose songs have been recorded by everyone from Emmylou Harris and Joe Cocker to Irma Thomas and Jimmy Buffett. She's made 12 critically-acclaimed albums. Her Al Kooper-produced 'Jaded Virgin' was voted Record Of The Year (1978) by Stereo Review. 'It's About Time...' (Island, 1995), recorded live at the Tennessee State Prison for Women, drew rave reviews from Time, USA Today and the Village Voice. Her most recent album 'Big Lonesome' was named by The Philadelphia Inquirer "Best Country/Roots Album of 2010," while Paste Magazine called it "her masterpiece." She writes books too! "They Came to Nashville" was nominated for the 2011 SIBA Book Award for nonfiction. She's appeared in the movies, playing Gwyneth Paltrow's road manager in 'Country Strong.' Her musical 'Good Ol' Girls' (adapted from the fiction of Lee Smith and Jill McCorkle, featuring songs by Matraca Berg and Marshall) opened off-Broadway in 2010. Whew! Marshall Chapman stays busy. Her latest record is out May 28, called "Blaze Of Glory". Rodney Crowell says, 'Blaze of Glory' is the best record yet from the Goddess of Tall." Marshall will join us on June 12 for an in-store performance at Grimey's Too/Howlin' Books to celebrate.
