The Totally Biased Stand-Up Tour: W. Kamau Bell

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

The last time W. Kamau Bell came through town for a performance at The High Watt, he was just barely breaking out into the mainstream. For years, Bell has been well regarded in the West Coast comedy scene for his W. Kamau Bell Curve shows, tag-lined “solving racism in about an hour,” where he tackled subjects like racism and social injustice with hilarious grace. It’s easy to get onstage and rail against social issues in America; the hard part is making it funny. In that regard, Bell succeeds — and spectacularly so. Now returning for his second Nashville gig, this time playing Cannery Ballroom’s first stand-up show ever, Bell is bringing along the writers of Totally Biased — his excellent weekly talk show that combines the firebrand spirit of The Henry Rollins Show with the spot-on satiric japes of Comedy Central’s nightly political lineup. Joining Bell are comedians Janine Brito, Kevin Kataoka and Aparna Nancherla.
