Mercy Lounge presents
Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors w/Judah and the Lion
There are loads of reasons to root for Drew Holcomb, from the unfussy, DIY-style perseverance he’s shown over the past decade to the way he splits the difference between easygoing pop sensibilities and roots-rock troubadour seriousness. The guy was raised in Memphis (where he also recorded his latest, Good Light), educated in Knoxville (where he met his wife and singing partner, Ellie, at the University of Tennessee) and has made his home in Nashville for the past several years. There’s even a song pledging his faithfulness to Tennessee on this album. Plus he and Ellie deserve credit for all the supple harmonizing they do without resorting to the side-by-side shouting technique that’s come to plague many a young Americana act, and for co-writing the appealing ’70s-style soft rock ballad in this batch, “Nothing But Trouble.” And while they put on a good old hometown show in the cavernous ground floor venue, twang-spiked, Midwestern indie rockers Houndmouth will be making some noise just down the hall and up the stairs in the Mercy Lounge.
