One of the never-ending arguments that constantly hammer at our warped little wigdomes is this: “Who’s the greatest artist to ever come out of Alabama, Sun Ra or Lionel Richie?” No lie, this keeps us up, ahem, all night. All. Night. Long. All night! And while the space-journeying, noise-fetishizing side of our brain would like to champion Sun Ra, the not-completely-unhinged romantic side of our noggin would have to choose Lionel Richie. Besides, Sun Ra never put out a Nashville-recorded countrified version of his classics like Richie’s 2012 release Tuskegee, which scores an immense number of points in our book. So Richie wins the day — and how could he not with all-time heavyweight classics like “Hello” and “Endless Love” under his belt?
