The Psychedelic Furs w/SpacehogPop/Rock
Two years ago, New Wave nobles The Psychedelic Furs performed their 1981 classic Talk, Talk, Talk in its entirety, and it was totally rad. Singer Richard Butler’s breathy British rasp voice sounded as glorious and gravelly as ever, and his mirror moves — lyrically interpretive hand gestures, lanky, loose-limbed shimmying not unlike a dandy Gumby doll — were even better. If you missed them (for shame!) then worry not, as a redemption opportunity awaits at War Memorial Auditorium, where the band returns to Nashville touting a greatest hits-style set list of Reagan-era radio staples the likes of “Pretty in Pink,” “Heaven” and “Here Come Cowboys.” As an added bonus, ’90s Anglophiliac one-hit-wonders (but only because life’s not fair) Spacehog will open. If seeing the Furs kick out “The Ghost in You” is worth the price of admission, then certainly Spacehog rocking “In the Meantime” (a song that’s aged as well as any Blur-vs.-Oasis-era Brit-pop gem) is worth the service charge.
