After a three-year run with his own Larry Sanders-like showbiz-funhouse vehicle (Showtime’s The Chris Isaak Show), not to mention intermittent gigs as part of Jonathan Demme’s repertory company, Isaak could’ve quit music and parlayed his Chet Baker pretty-boy-pugilist looks into a cushy acting career with no trouble — witness his steamy clinches in the “Wicked Game” video. But his live shows provide a platform for all his skills — not just his sneaky dry humor and comic flair, but also his unexpected heat as a slow-burning rocker (and the chill-raising Roy Orbison croon that won him a cult following on arrival with 1985’s Silvertone). He’s still touring on the strength of his 2011 Sun Records tribute Beyond the Sun, which made explicit his debt to the rockabilly cats of yesteryear. Tickets run $40-$65; Sam Lewis opens.
