Duffy Jackson Benefit Show Featuring Nashville Jazz Workshop All-Stars and The Time Jumpers

An exemplary big-band jazz drummer, Duffy Jackson has played with such greats as Count Basie and Lena Horne. The son of bassist Chubby Jackson, Duffy got his union card at age 8, and went on to drum with Horne, Sammy Davis Jr. and Jon Hendricks. A Nashville resident for several years, Jackson leads The Duffy Jackson Big Band, whose appearances at the Nashville Jazz Workshop have attracted a new generation of fans. Tonight’s show is a benefit for Jackson, who has incurred substantial medical expenses in recent months. Aiming the beat at the feet will be the Nashville Jazz Workshop All-Stars, led by saxophonist Denis Solee. Also on board will be Western swingers The Time Jumpers. As Jackson said in a 2012 interview, “Jazz and Nashville used to be an oxymoron. But the thing is, I’m putting my Basie groove into the country feel.”
