Daughter w/Bear's Den

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Daughter is a rising U.K. trio that will likely play a venue as small as Exit/In only once in Nashville. Led by demure songwriter Elena Tonra, Daughter builds heavily textured landscapes around mournful folk tunes — falling somewhere in between 4AD labelmates Bon Iver and fellow Londoners The xx — and they’ve been surrounded by hype since getting started in 2010. Aside from helping Daughter secure a spot on one of the world’s most prestigious indie labels, that buzz also catapulted Tonra & Co. onto tours with The National and Sigur Rós, and they’ve played Letterman and Glastonbury. The band members met at London’s Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, and in interviews they seem somewhat shocked at how quickly Daughter’s star has risen, but they’re not shying away in the least — youth is on their side. And my money’s on Daughter playing the Ryman or Marathon Music Works next time they pay us a visit. Bear’s Den opens.
