Arctic Monkeys w/Deap Vally

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

In the tradition of The Jam and The Kinks, aggressively English bands being gods in their homeland and mere bands in the United States is a phenomenon as old as the British invasion. But never has the gap been wider than it is for Arctic Monkeys, who by way of fan voting (!) headlined this year’s Glastonbury Festival over … wait for it … The Rolling Stones (whose name was at least listed in second position on the handbill). Tonight the band returns to Nashville, performing its popular (in Britain) favorites, along with cuts from its hard-rockin’ fifth Britpop long-player AM. L.A. stoner-rockin’ scuzz-blues duo Deap Vally (who’ve in the past earned praise as the female Black Keys or JEFF the Brotherhood) open with a set of sweet riffs and shambolic beats.
