East C.A.N. Benefit feat. Jon Byrd, Jesse Lafser, Amelia White & Tommy WomackPop/Rock
The East Side’s dropped-off dogs and homeless pets have a staunch ally in East C.A.N. (Community Action Network), the volunteer organization that hooks up homeless and abandoned canines with foster families who can train them for new lives as house pets. It may not have an office building (or even an office), but it does have a support network that reaches across East Nashville — and this weekend, two benefit events are hoping to bring in some kibble. First up Friday at Top O’Woodland is a night of live music featuring neo-folk singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Jesse Lafser, vocalist Amelia White, roots rocker Jon Byrd and caustic troubador Tommy Womack, with food provided by The Wild Cow and Eatwell Market. Then comes Sunday’s “Inspired on the East Side” arts festival at East-Centric Pavilion, 1006 Fatherland St., including a silent auction that benefits both East C.A.N and Robyn’s Nest Animal Rescue. Tickets for Friday’s music event are $10; for more information, see eastcan.org.
