Blues Mother w/Molly Sue Gonzalez and the Mean Mean Men, Gold Hope Duo & Looka Looka LookaBlues
We see you over there, waffling about whether or not to go out to Charlie Bob’s. Waffle no longer, friend — get thee to the diner, wherein you’ll find hash browns of extraordinary crispiness and a heaping helping of sonic hip-billy gumbo, brewed with fresh ingredients from all over this side of the Mississippi. The marquee act is Blues Mother, a local supergroup of sorts featuring members of Heavy Cream, Altered Statesmen and Thelma and the Sleaze, who pay tribute to the Ruth Brown and Wanda Jackson school of fire-breathing R&B and rockabilly priestesses. Birds of a feather Molly Sue Gonzalez and The Mean Mean Men will bring their own spin on all things rockabilly, while Kingston, N.Y.’s Gold Hope Duo drop in to inject a little country and folk into the proceedings, with a sprinkle of foot percussion and kazoo to seal the deal. Wandering Floridians Looka Looka Looka round out the bill with their “Dumpster Swing,” an amalgamation of all of the above that filters in some gypsy jazz and Eastern European folk. Make sure to polish those dancin’ shoes!
