Grand Master Fiddler Championship Benefit feat. The Time Jumper Fiddlers, Tennessee Mafia Jug Band, The Likely Culprits, Meghan Linsey of Steel Magnolia, The Whites, plus Special GuestsBluegrass
You know how a musical reality competition like American Idol is supposed to be a genuine proving ground that crowns the most talented entertainer each season? The bluegrass, old-time and folk worlds have long had a realer-than-real equivalent: the fiddle contest. Too many important fiddlers to count have found their footing in these competitions, and that includes The Time Jumpers’ Paul Franklin, The Likely Culprits’ Deannie Richardson and The Tennessee Mafia Jug Band’s Dan Kelly. The Culprits are a broadminded bluegrass and country outfit; The Jug Band is filled with jolly hillbilly entertainers in the Grandpa Jones tradition; and The Time Jumpers’ fiddle section is a Western swing triple-threat with Franklin, Joe Spivey and Kenny Sears. The competition is also a fundraiser for the nonprofit Grand Master Fiddler Championship, to be held at the Country Music Hall of Fame at the end of August. Also on the bill? Meghan Linsey, the female half of the TV competition-winning country-pop duo Steel Magnolia. No word on whether she’ll be sawing on away on a fiddle.
