Summer NAMM's Industry Day

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Gear addicts get googly-eyed at the mention of the Summer NAMM (National Association of Music Merchandisers) Show’s Music Industry Day, the annual everything-musical expo that anyone can attend for $10 in advance or $20 at the door. Sure, there are seminars on topics like how to become a session player, but the star attractions are the shiny new products: guitars, basses, amps, drums, keyboards, banjos, microphones, software, sheet music and more, all available to peruse or play. Reps from big manufacturers and artisan instrument builders are on hand to yak it up, and there are freebies that range from magazines to T-shirts to thumb drives. Some smooth-talking Nashvillians have left past shows with endorsements, and celebrity musicians present demonstrations and concerts — like the guitar showcase that finger-style wizard Muriel Anderson is hosting with Phil Keaggy, Jack Pearson, Rory Hoffman and others on Friday at 7:30 p.m. for a separate $20 ticket available at the door. This year attendees can expect more than ever before, thanks to the show’s mammoth new Music City Center location. For tickets and a schedule check namm.org/summer/2013
