Kurt Vile is slowly, quietly becoming one of the great American guitarists and songwriters of our time. Hailing from Philadelphia, Vile began making his own recordings at home when he was 14. By 17, he was self-releasing cassettes of his home recordings. By 2005 he had formed the band War On Drugs. Amicably parting with that band in 2008, but often still sharing members as backup musicians for his own shows, Vile concentrated on his own thing and released a steady stream of strong and increasingly more adoringly-received albums. He joined the Matador roster with 2011's "Smoke Rings For My Halo" which was Vile's best-received work yet, charting on Billboard and meeting nearly universal critical acclaim. This year's "Wakin On A Pretty Daze" is even better. Beautifully produced by John Agnello, the record is filled with hazy, swooning guitar lines and dreamy, beatific, and occasionally sardonic vocals. We couldn't be more excited that Kurt Vile is coming to our record store to perform an intimate solo set in the afternoon before his show with full band The Violators later in the evening at Mercy Lounge. Don't miss this one folks!
