Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Oftentimes classic bands with estranged members touring a nostalgia-rife set list chock-full of the same songs can at least agree on what the old fans want to hear. In the case of the Jerry Only-rigged Misfits — who play Exit/In tonight, with a lineup that at least includes former Black Flag dude Dez Cadena — those songs are hook-replete horror-punk standards like “Last Caress,” “Skulls” and “Hybrid Moments.” But the band’s latest release, Dead Alive! — a live album recorded in 2011 — features no Danzig-era classics, and instead cobbles together recent cuts from albums hardly anybody heard and fewer people bought, along with ’90s nuggets from the band’s tenure with singer Michale Graves — Danzig’s replacement, who left the band in 2000. “Who the fuck would ever wanna listen to that?” you ask. Good question. Hopefully tonight’s set list will be a little less ambitious. Luckily local punks Cy Barkley and the Way Outsiders are opening, and their latest release, Mutability, totally slays.
