Queen Kwong, Fancytramp, Nudity
“Nothing like a good thing going the wrong way,” Carré Callaway, aka Queen Kwong, sings on “Sucker.” And if there’s just the slightest echo of the Nine Inch Nails lyric “nothing quite like the feel of something new,” that might not be an accident — Callaway, after all, came to public notice as a protégé of NIN’s Trent Reznor, who has taken Callaway’s band out on the road as an opener twice in the past decade. Queen Kwong sings from a variety of personae — home wrecker, heartbreaker, mocker of penis size (in a song called “Ike Turner,” no less!) — usually over frazzled bass lines and leering guitars. Good news for people who like bad vibes.
