Mayhem Performs Bruce Springstein's Born to Run and Born in the U.S.A.
Did you miss when Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band played the classic Born To Run in its entirety at Bridgestone Arena a few years back? Did you make the same mistake when Nashville’s fantastic Long Players performed the album that same year, or last year when they gave Ronald Reagan’s favorite Boss record Born in the U.S.A. the same treatment? Tonight at The 5 Spot you get a chance at redemption, when Long Players-rivaling, album-tackling ensemble Mayhem celebrates Black Friday with cover-to-cover performances of both Springsteen essentials — the 1975 album that made him a star and the 1984 album that made him an icon. The former Born is a coming-of-age album about the growing pains of glory days, and the latter Born is a coming-to-terms album about letting go of the past … that features “Glory Days.” In the spirit of Thanksgiving and Springsteen-style philanthropy alike, proceeds from tonight’s tribute will go to the Salvation Army, and $5 is a small price to pay to hear a crack band nail “Jungleland.”
