Alan Jackson Album ReleaseBluegrass
You might as well go pitch a tent outside The Station Inn right now if you want to be one of the lucky 150 souls who make it through the door before the official Sharpie-marker-on-paper-plate “sold out” sign goes up. For once, the club proprietors are actually taking reservations the day before the show. It’s kind of crazy that a star attraction like Alan Jackson is celebrating the release of The Bluegrass Album in such a cozy venue. But it makes perfect sense that he’s finally gotten around to assembling some of contemporary bluegrass’s finest — including singers Ronnie Bowman and Don Rigsby, banjo player Sammy Shelor, mandolinist Adam Steffey and Dobro player Rob Ickes — and committing a mixture of sturdy originals and time-tested Monroe and Dillards covers to tape. Jackson’s emerged on the other side of his longtime country label contract, and he sounds like he’s absolutely in his element.
