Dale Ann Bradley,Tina Adair, Deanie Richardson, Gena Britt & Beth Lawrence

Bluegrass
Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

It’s kind of a shame to have to point out that even as a sideline, an all-female “supergroup” is still a rarity in bluegrass (not to mention other genres) — but if it serves to underline the coolness that is Sister Sadie, it’s shame well spent. Sadly, much of the superness comes (at least for the time being) more from musical chops than from renown, although there’s some of the latter, too, what with Dale Ann Bradley’s five IBMA Female Vocalist awards. Golden pipes aside, Bradley’s also known as a fierce guitarist, and the rest of the bunch are highly valued among their colleagues — male and female alike — for strong singing and supple picking. Gena Britt (banjo), Tina Adair (mandolin), Beth Lawrence (bass) and Deanie Richardson (fiddle) all take their turns on vocals, and they all have lengthy résumés, some dandy main gigs (remember that “sideline” party?) and lots of colleagues rooting them on.
