Great Peacock w/The District Attorneys & Joey Kneiser

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

A diverse array of new talent continues to bubble up from across the South, and the folks over at This Is American Music, a blog/record label/hype machine that works with the acts on this bill, have a keen ear for Southerners with strong songwriting ability and a penchant for blurring the lines between country, rock, soul and folk. On their debut EP, recent Nashville transplants Great Peacock deliver a clean, crisp, contemporary take on vintage folk-rock that hints at their barnstorming roots, steering clear of the melodramatic Mumfords and Lumineers with whom they share some territory. The District Attorneys are a credit to their home turf of Athens, Ga., with an infectious rock-pop sound that splits the difference gracefully between R.E.M. and The Replacements. Rounding out the bill is Glossary’s Joey Kneiser; though his band is a thing of rock ’n’ roll beauty, Kneiser could hold a crowd by just sitting on a stage and talking, so a solo set while drummer Eric Giles recovers from tendonitis doesn’t feel like a consolation prize.
