YelaWolf w/Jelly Roll

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Move to Nashville, grow a beard, make a record. It’s a formula that works. You can’t fuck with it really — it’s a tried-and-true methodology in pop music — but Yelawolf might be the first to try it in the rap game. (We’re pretty sure Young Buck had the beard before and after his brush with coastal recordings, but that’s a discussion for a different day.) Catfish Billy has been in Music City mixing up the medicine for Love Story, the follow-up to 2011’s Radioactive. We’ve got our fingers crossed that the new record will find him in grittier Trunk Muzik form and Kid Rock-free — Radioactive had its moments, but it also had an air of record-label meddling, particularly the appearance of ol’ Bob Ritchie. But then again, Yela’s got a beard, and his next road-trip has been dubbed the “The F*ck It Tour,” so we have the feeling that dude is back to his reliable, wildin’ self.
