TPAC Gala Fundraiser 2013 feat. Wanda Jackson
By the time you read this, tickets may well be gone for TPAC’s reliably spectacular annual fundraiser, a lavish affair that turns out the city’s elite in natty attire to support the performing arts center’s offerings and outreach programs. But in the event a few tickets are left, here’s a compelling reason to pony up the $400: The theme for the evening is “Million Dollar Quartet,” in honor of the Tony-winning Broadway musical that arrives next spring as the capstone of TPAC’s Broadway Series — and who better to honor a show based on the legendary summit meeting of Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins than rockabilly legend Wanda Jackson, the evening’s entertainment, still knocking ’em dead after a six-decade career with showstoppers like “Fujiyama Mama” and “Hard Headed Woman.” The single degree of separation between Elvis and Jack White, Jackson’s still a pistol live, backed by a blazing band; don your best “rockabilly chic” wardrobe, goose-grease that hair, and get real, real gone for a change — with cocktails and a silent auction to boot.
