Denney and the Jets w/Zach Ryan and the Renegades
There’s nothing frilly about Chris Denney and whomever happens to be in his current lineup of Jets — just old-timey, buried-needle rock ’n’ roll with a rough country edge, providing a hearty challenge to the Stones’ early-’70s output with grit, snarl and groove to spare. As with Promised Land Sound, the group formed by Denney’s erstwhile rhythm section, we’ve heard the sound before, but it’s such a natural fit that we wouldn’t have it any other way. Word from Denney is that the debut full-length — made with producer-engineer extraordinaire Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes, Totally Snake and many more) in the captain’s chair — is complete. Last year’s self-titled EP, also made in Tokic’s analog-centric Bomb Shelter studio, was a rollicking joint that we had a hard time pulling from our playlist, so we’ll lay odds that the new ish is going to be just as stellar.
