Interview w/Dr. John Hosted by Nick Spitzer
In a career that has spanned nearly 60 years, Dr. John has embodied the musical heritage of New Orleans and brought a taste of that tradition to recordings as a performer, session man and producer. With his 1968 debut album Gris-Gris, he launched a solo career that combined rock ’n’ roll, blues, jazz, zydeco, boogie-woogie and funk with a traveling revue inspired by old-time medicine shows. He’s an unclassifiable artist, with talents that couldn’t be contained in a single genre — until some sharp cookie baked up the term “Americana.” Nick Spitzer, host of the public radio show American Routes, will conduct this one-on-one interview with the good Doctor. Co-sponsored by the Americana Music Association, the event is free to museum members, attendees and AMA badge holders; seating is limited.
