Paul Brewster Album Release

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

You know how there are singers who can absolutely slay an audience on their own, but who nevertheless wind up working alongside or behind someone else? Case in point: Paul Brewster, an outstanding and experienced lead vocalist who gave up that job decades ago to serve with the Osborne Brothers, and since then, with Ricky Skaggs. Brewster occasionally uncorks a solo effort, though, and the new one, Cardboard Records’ 3 Minute Heartache, is fabulous — a set of hardcore country songs, almost all of them originals, and none of them with even the faintest trace of must. There are shuffles, ballads and some country-rock, all served up with soaring, effortless conviction. Sonya Isaacs, who appears on the album, and Vince Gill, who doesn’t, are promised guests, and they’ll surely add something — but only to music that’s already whole on its own.
