Caspian w/65daysofstatic

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

It’s been a solid fall for epic howl-at-the-moon instrumental rock music in Nashville. Gnomic lords Sigur Rós and apocalyptic masters Godspeed You! Black Emperor ushered in our sepia-toned proggy autumn, which will be considerably enhanced by this bill. Massachusetts’ Caspian accidentally fell into the instrumental gig (at first they searched for a singer — to no avail), but serendipity served them well: Lead vocals would diminish the poignance of the quintet’s work, which is floridly textured and immaculately composed. Caspian’s three-guitar roster ensures the band can reach their forebears’ towering post-rock zeniths, but increasingly the band is trading in more meditative moods, especially on the just-released EP Hymn For the Greatest Generation. The U.K. troupe 65daysofstatic, which has something of a cult following abroad (including The Cure’s Robert Smith), nods to Aphex Twin, Mogwai and Massive Attack in their dense, lush, largely electronic instrumentals. The World Is a Beautiful Place and I Am No Longer Afraid to Die opens.
