Adam Faucett w/Stone Jack Jones & Twiggs
As 2013 comes to a close, I tend to reflect a lot, and I’ve gotta say that this has been my folksiest fuckin’ year in a long time. Sure, the suspender-wearing shitheads who’ve been hand-clapping their way through the hit parade are pretty awful, and they continue to make it rather embarrassing to be a folk fan, but I’ve still got a stack of records on my desk that proves the genre isn’t completely lost to the dipshits. One of those records is Adam Faucett’s 2011 LP More Like a Temple — two years in, and it’s still charming, still beautiful, still better than the mandolin-pop that keeps getting programmed on the radio. (And don’t even get me started on “Wake Me Up,” the Mumford-tronica abomination from dance star Avicii. Fuck that song.) More Like a Temple has a subtle calm and a laid-back groove that places it outside the stream of contemporary bullshit.
