Upstairs At United

Analog Tape Listening Session

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Above the hissing, clanking and smell of hot vinyl at Nashville’s United Record Pressing is the groovy “party room” — a fascinating bit of Music City history that has hosted events for Hank Williams Jr., the Supremes, Smokey Robinson, Jack White and more in its 51-year history. Since 2011, the swingin’ space has also doubled as a makeshift recording studio for the Upstairs at United series of EPs. These 12-inch gems feature current artists cutting live performances straight to analog tape with no overdubs, edits or audio tomfoolery. All nine of the Upstairs releases will be featured at this special listening party. The lineup includes recordings by Brendan Benson, Cory Chisel, The Smoke Fairies, JEFF the Brotherhood, Keane, North Mississippi Allstars, Willy Mason, Chuck Mead and Henry Wagons. 6 p.m. at United Record Pressing, 453 Chestnut St.
