Young the Giant

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

In the fluid pond of indie rock, unrelentingly earnest Southern California college-rock craze Young the Giant is a pretty big fish. Boasting a stadium-aspiring sound that plays like 20-somethings taking on post-Y2K U2, the still-budding quintet straddles the line between pitch-perfect fodder for radio airplay and stages shared with more mainstream, alt-rock bro bands like Incubus, in addition to landing their own installment of MTV Unplugged. So why are they appearing at the couple-hundred capacity High Watt? The answer: Months in advance of the band’s sophomore full-length, Mind Over Matter, which drops in January, the band is doing a mini-tour of intimate, all-ages radio promo shows at clubs a 10th the size of the theaters they’re big enough to headline. Middle Tennessee YtG fans, you have a rare opportunity to catch the band in such a setting.
