8 Off 8th: Psych Night

w/Satans Youth Ministers w/Adam Faucett, The Inscape, Penicillin Baby, Shy Guy, Hollow Ox, Sparkling Wide Pressure, Jota Ese & Caveman the Wise

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Fellow psychedelic space warriors, lend me your ears: You’ll find no better place to tune in, turn on and drop out this evening than at Mercy Lounge. While we don’t typically plug the Lounge’s weekly 8 off 8th series — who has time to talk about all eight bands on each week’s bill? — we’ll make an exception for local dude Stu Walker’s Psych Night edition. Tonight’s lineup includes a slew of Scene faves, all of them of a particularly far-out bent. There’s psych-poppy rock ’n’ rollers Penicillin Baby, who deliver undeniable pop melodies that cut through layers of effects-laden guitars. Then you’ve got shoegaze-informed post-rockers Hollow Ox, experimentalist Frank Baugh’s Sparkling Wide Pressure and Alabama’s Southern-punk madmen Satan’s Youth Ministers (whose frontman has been known to cross-dress). Rounding out the bill are Adam Faucett, The Inscape and Shy Guy, with Jota Ese and Caveman the Wise spinning all night. Meltface Video Destruction will provide the visual accompaniment for the evening.
