Noisem w/Forest of Tygers & CannibisisPunk/Hardcore
Remember when Metallica recorded a show in The Basement and released it on vinyl to support independent record stores? That was awesome, but things kinda went downhill from there … There was Death Magnetic, an album so tiresomely loud that fans petitioned for a remaster, and Lulu, a collaboration with Lou Reed, may he rest in peace knowing he’ll never have to hear that mess again. That’s where Baltimore’s Noisem comes in, with a fresh, raw take on thrash metal that actually makes it fun to listen to again; one spin was all it took to send us hunting the ice pack for our neck. Local husband-and-wife team Forest of Tygers are satisfyingly heavy and technical, making a successful hybrid of thrash and sludge; Canabisis doesn’t quite hit the mark, coming across like they’re trying to shred through a terminal case of the munchies, as you might expect from a group that identifies its music as “420 THRASH.” Axis swirls prog into the mix without diluting the crunch, and Deaf Kid churns out grimy doom in bite-size hardcore pieces.
