Generations Against the Death Penalty Benefit Concert
This lineup is a good thing, indeed. The literature on generational differences tends to peg baby boomer parents as being much more radical activists — at least during their Woodstock-and-Vietnam-era adolescence — than their coddled offspring. But seeing John Hiatt and Lilly Hiatt, Ranger Doug and James Green, Gail Davies and Chris Scruggs and Marcus Hummon and Levi Hummon take the stage together to raise some cash for the nonprofit Tennesseans for Alternatives to the Death Penalty — which fights a very important, if often uphill, battle in our state — just goes to show how unreliable such broad-brush demographic painting can be. It also challenges outside assumptions about how monolithically backward we are in these parts. Best of all, the ticket proceeds will help fund compassionate work.
