Imagine No Gun Violence: a Tribute To the Music of John Lennon
Tennessee is so gun-crazy that it’s only a matter of time before some wingnut legislator proposes a “guns in cribs” bill. So it’s refreshing that there are still a few folks out there actually interested in trying to put an end to the madness. In earlier incarnations, this event was known as “Imagine No Handguns,” but as mass shootings have become an all-too-common occurrence, the name was changed in 2011 to reflect a desire to end all types of gun violence. In the past, proceeds went to the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, but organizers Lisa York and Peggy Paulson have decided to establish a local nonprofit to provide assistance to those adversely affected by gun violence, and share educational tools to help prevent such violence. The organization, Imagine No Gun Violence, is in the process of acquiring 501c3 status. This year’s lineup includes Will Kimbrough, Bill Lloyd, Jon Byrd, Mando Saenz, Smoking Flowers, Guilty Pleasures, members of Poco, Sam Hawksley, Junk Train, King Bub (featuring Brad Talbott and Robin Eaton), Lisa Oliver-Gray, Tommy Womack and The Big Greasy. Tickets are $10, and all proceeds go to Imagine No Gun Violence.
