The Kingston Springs with Richie & Faux Ferocious
The Kingston Springs, purveyors of bluesy, surfy pop, are living proof that slow and steady wins the race — they gradually built on their 2010 EP and 2012 full-length to become a national name. Four years into their career, and it’s getting difficult to find a bar or festival they haven’t played — but through it all, they’ve held on to an impressive ability to go from whip-smart to big, dumb fun within a single song. They bring it on home tonight with help from Ri¢hie’s big band, an act that might fool you into thinking they’re sillier than they really are by pairing stellar musicianship and wry commentary on revolutionary politics with shout-along choruses about upchucking on fair rides, online sex surveys and animal print activewear. Faux Ferocious rounds out tonight’s bill with another set that blends the best of punk and post-punk traditions, as well as news that another new 7-inch is fresh off to the pressing plant.
