The Wild Feathers w/Buffalo Clover
The rockification of country music has wrought both good and ill — and lately more ill. The current crop of mouth-breathing Lower Bro audio kegstands has made it one of pop’s most critically maligned hybrids. But bands trafficking in older, less stridently dumb approaches are making a better mash of the ingredients. The Wild Feathers do a scuffed-denim woozy blues that rings some of the same bells the Black Crowes do — birds of a … well, you know — though with a more agnostic bent. Buffalo Clover veer more to the cosmic American side of the road (also the bright side), building their sound around singer Margot Price, who leans into the band’s punchy roots-driven material like she’s got a chip on her shoulder and zero fucks to give. That’s a good thing.
