Juke Joint Blues Bash

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Evoking visions of moonshine and fish fries, the Nashville Blues Society has been taping its free Juke Joint Blues Blast series in front of a live audience at Old Time Pickin’ Parlor for one Sunday a month since October. This round is a typically raw ’n’ sprawling sampler of the genre, hosted by bluesman Richie Owens, who leads Richie Owens and the Farm Bureau and runs the vibey venue/music store/vintage apparel shop in Marathon Village. Headliners the Jake Leg Stompers yank the sound of 1920s Memphis jug band music into the lively present, spiking their medicine show style with plenty of humor. Gina Sicilia is a smoky-voiced singer-songwriter who has received multiple Blues Music Award nominations, and recently relocated from her native Philadelphia to Music City. And Matt Tedder is a lowdown one-man band who will represent Nashville at the 2014 International Blues Challenge in Memphis this January.
