A December Hallelujah

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

May we offer a humble prescription for preserving your sanity this holiday season? Sometime among the fits of shopping and baking and social obligations, find a few minutes for some lusty, full-throated caroling. Unlike spiked eggnog, it won’t leave you with a headache; unlike anonymous sex with a stranger wearing a Santa hat, there’s no shame walk afterward. (Then again, we haven’t heard you harmonize.) The department of music at Trevecca Nazarene University hosts this early evening of carols and seasonal standards featuring the TNAZ Jazz Ensemble, the Vocal Edge Ensemble, the Trevecca Symphony Orchestra, the Gospel Choir Ensemble and more. Selections range from “Jingle Bells” and a Canadian Brass Christmas tribute to a decidedly cool “Frosty the Bluesman,” capped by a sing-along performance of sections from Handel’s Messiah. Tickets $5.
