Tristen w/Willy Mason

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

There were times last year when backers of the Kickstarter campaign to fund Tristen’s sophomore album felt like it might never arrive — delays of various kinds pushed the release from June to October. (Disclosure: I was one of those backers.) But the finished product was well worth the wait, and the uniformly excellent C A V E S found its way not only to backers’ mailboxes and hard drives but also onto the Scene’s year-end albums list, where it garnered first-place honors for its compound strengths of melodic hooks and sumptuous sonic layers. And even though Tristen made the leap from strummed guitars on her debut album to sleek Stephen Hague-produced synth beds on its follow-up, she — in a Swift-esque show of style-crossing versatility — still played a set for the Americana-centric Music City Roots revue at Loveless Barn. So the sky’s the limit in ’14.
