Fragments of God w/Dogtooth & Ttotals
2013’s trend was once-defunct local bands reuniting and mostly knocking our socks off — let’s hope 2014 isn’t the year that all of our new favorites call it quits. It’s a bummer that the noisy, technically proficient punks of Fragments of God are already throwing in the towel after one single and barely a year of shows, but we can hope it’s due to an abundance of other projects that will make good use of their hardcore-krautrock skills. Coed quartet Dogtooth are a little too upbeat for their self-assigned “goth-rock” tag, but they nicely blend a couple of moody pop styles we love: two parts warm, atmospheric wash to one part power-pop-inspired angular thrust. Outer-blues explorers Ttotals are back with another dose of brooding, heavy psych that shimmers as well as it grinds; their association with the Dig Deep Light Show and Fragment of God’s work with video projection artist/composer/man-about-town Devin Lamp lead us to expect some heady visuals as well. Local noise artist Reed Campbell, under the moniker Harvest Team, opens the show.
