Lightning 100 and Yuengling Presents
John and Jacob
The two songs that Birmingham-to-Nashville transplants John and Jacob are best known for so far are “Done” — the blunt-force kiss-off that became a chart single for The Band Perry (Jacob Bryant wrote it with Perry brothers Reid and Neil) — and the back-to-innocence, ’60s pop-flavored tune “Be My Girl.” The latter’s gotten lots of Lightning 100 spins, which may have something to do with the duo headlining the station’s live Sunday night broadcast, although it was also used to demonstrate the vocal chemistry between Gunnar, Avery and Zoe on an October episode of ABC’s Nashville. Pretty much ever since John and Jacob came to town and signed a published deal with Major Bob Music, Everly Brothers comparisons have trailed along behind them. But listen to some of the other songs in their catalog — “The Road” and “I’d Go Back,” for instance — and you’ll find it’d be more accurate to say these tuneful devils split the difference between emo and Everlys. And it works.
