Natural Child w/Barreracudas, Ranch Ghost, JP5 & Music BandPop/Rock
There are plenty of fun ways to ring in 2014, but if you’re looking for the one with the most unadulterated rock ’n’ roll, this is your show. That’s not to say you like your rock dull, either; the five bands on this bill do a solid job of covering the spectrum of subtle nuances. Relative newcomers Music Band and Joey Plunkett’s JP5 put their individual twists on the fast ’n’ loud Southern garage sound, while Ranch Ghost throws swirly, swampy psych into the mix. Atlanta quintet Barreracudas makes some of the crunchiest power pop we’ve heard in a while, and is led by Those Darlins’ Adrian Barrera – you’ve heard his bottom end on the Darlins’ new LP, Blur the Line, and seen his bottom on the album’s cover, not to mention 8 feet tall on the Thirty Tigers/Grimey’s building. Capping it all off are longtime Scene favorites Natural Child; though they’ve taken advantage of pedal steel ace Luke Schneider to accent the country in their DNA lately, theirs remains one of the best and most rockin’ sets to be heard in Nashville or anywhere else.
