Red Bull Sound Select Presents

Cory Chisel w/Patrick Sweany & Promised Land Sound

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Native Midwesterner Cory Chisel could probably be considered an honorary Nashvillian at this point — he recorded his 2012 long-player Old Believers here with longtime Music City denizen and Raconteur Brendan Benson, whose Readymade Records also released the record. Featured on Believers is the kind of sleeve-hearted, earnest folk that predates the Americana boom ushered in by the Mumfords, the Avetts and all the rest. Also appearing on tonight’s bill is Rust Belt native and adopted Nashvillian Patrick Sweany, whose 2013 release Close to the Floor brims with enjoyable salt-of-the-earth blues-rocking soul. Regular readers need no introduction to youngsters (and likely Burrito Brothers aficionados) Promised Land Sound, whose Paradise of Bachelors debut landed on the Scene’s Top Local Albums of 2013 critics’ poll just a month ago. Tonight’s bill is nice and round, full of rock ’n’ roll that smacks of blue-collar roots, ashtrays and cheap domestic beer … even if the show is sponsored by an Austrian-owned energy-drink company.
